Likal	(pronounced Lie Kal), is derived from Like, Love and Local.
What is Likal?	Likal is a serviced package that enables people who love their area to really show local people what great stuff is going on.
Why is Likal needed?	Problem Traditional Local media have been gutted by big business and seek such huge economies of scale that they are no longer really effective as LOCAL media. Traditional Local media are also very expensive places to advertise, and are not cost effective for most local businesses. Solution Likal uses the Net (plus low cost offline material) to plug those gaps, AND create a medium which is effective and affordable for local advertisers. Likals can be run as profitable businesses (if you are good at sales) or non commercial public sector/charity/voluntary operations. (But even non commercial ones should be able to generate enough revenue to cover costs, and thus free themselves from the need to chase grants/sponsors with the strings that come attached).
Want one for your area?	You must be interested in your local community, and willing to invest time and effort in making it work. You don't need any web design skills, and we provide training on the Content Management System. Anyone who finished High School can run a Likal - if you have the enthusiasm and drive. If you want to run a Likal as a commercial business, you will need sales skills. Process - we visit your location to do the training, (typically 5-7 days, and always one to one). That way we can tailor it to local conditions and use real data from day 1, and provide much better support once back at base, because we are familiar with your locality. We are fully focussed on delivering practical success, not theory.
Terms	We offer a range of affordable terms and service levels based on your needs (entrepreneur , council, social entrepreneur, community activist) and the size of the local population.
FREE Licenses	We want to develop case studies outside England. If you are not in England, and can convince us that you have the motivation and resources to make a Likal work in your area, contact us. This offer is open worldwide. Note - while the licenses and support are free, our out of pocket expenses will need to be covered. (This relates to the on site training etc carried out at your location during the setup process. We will not charge our time, but there will be flights etc. Allow UKP500-1000 in Europe, and UKP1000-2000 in rest of world).
