Cheltenham Folk Festival
Annually in Cheltenham.
The 2008 Festival was my first Folk Festival.
What a nice surprise. Folk isn't normally my kind of music, but I had a really good time.
It's BIG - the Town Hall and other venues were really busy, lots of the acts did two sets to meet demand.
I spoke with quite a few of the audience and people had come from all over the country. This is a national event, and it's on our doorstep.
Go in 2009.
These guys are really funny and very clever. Well worth seeing.

Not a good video I'm afraid - sound was awful where I was filming from*, and the camerawork was off as well.
*Not the bands fault - acoustics in the space are poor if you are above the audience.

Duke - Music in the Park
Gloucester Festival 2008
The PA didn't do justice to this excellent trio. (Beatbox does require a really good sound system and that afternoon I found the sound the sound very muddy. Friends of mine on stage also noticed the sound issues. It's not the engineers fault - they did the Kings Square gig the next day and the sound there was excellent).
See their music video for a better idea of hat they can do.

The year of the Floods
In spite of the flooding, and lack of tap water- the river banks burst the day before the Festival was due to start - , the organisers and venues managed to stage nearly every event as planned.
Likal was there to record quite a lot of what went on, sometimes covering three venues each evening!
Below the photo gallery, (pics available for purchase from the photographer), is a selection of the videos. More are on the Likal23 account at YouTube.

Blues2Go at Cafe Rene
Ignoring the flood (because their decorative well is, in fact, a real one, currently sprouting a fetching blue hosepipe and some seriously Heath Robinson plumbing) Cafe Rene fly the flag for the Gloucester Blues Festival, keeping the music going while all other venues are shut...

Great lyrics and a west coast blues sound.
Michael Roach, Dennis Gruenling, Johnny Mars, Russ Green, and special guest Bernie Marsden (Whitesnake)
I'll be honest - I went because I'm shooting video, and I think I expected a fairly academic sort of porch music. How wrong can you be! This was porch music the way a Ferrari is form or transportation.
The clips give a flavour of the night, but really, if you like up tempo blues and didn't go, you missed a great night. All came on stage for the finale.

Gloucester International Rhythm & Blues Festival 2008
After last years flooding fun this years festival went pretty much without a hitch, and was appreciated by locals and visitors alike.
In filming the festival I was interested to come across people who had come from quite far away to attend - either for an act that they liked or simply because they loved the great combination of music, beer, and convivial atmosphere.

Whether or not this is visible depends on their page design, and the size of your browser window, but if you can't see it, scroll to top right and it will usually be there.

BLUES BROTHERS RELOADED are a hard-rockin', Gloucestershire-based, travelling showband dedicated to 'The Blues Brothers' film.- we're not just a normal tribute band, we're a theatrical event!
MISSION STATEMENT
Blues Brothers Reloaded was set up after seeing one too many Blues Brothers ‘tribute acts’. More often than not, these ‘tributes’ would consist of two men, with a backing track, essentially singing karaoke hits from The Blues Brothers film (usually, without the aid of a tune).
So, a few like-minded individuals decided that they were on a mission from mediocrity.
In 2005, on the 25th Anniversary of The Blues Brothers film (starring John Belushi and Dan Akroyd), we put the band back together.
This 9-piece ensemble is not an ‘act’ - it’s a theatrical show. You won’t see two fat blokes in suits, carrying a portable stereo system. Oh no. What you will see is a musically tight band, playing blues, jazz, soul, and rock ‘n’ roll. You’ll also see an all-dancing and all-singing duo of Soul Sisters, shaking their tail feathers and straining their vocal chords. And guess what else you’ll see? That’s right. Jake and Elwood Blues. Or as near as dammit.
Blues Brothers Reloaded is a high-kicking, ball-busting, blues-bitching, hard-rocking, nail-biting, cat-fighting, mickey-taking, film-faking, tight-fitting, feet-stomping, dance-crazy, alcohol-hazy, powerhouse performance of a show.
Book them now for your corporate events, weddings, birthday parties, special occasions, or just to re-live the classic film. They will get the audience participating, get the crowds dancing, get the adrenaline pumping, and transport you back to downtown Chicago.
We’re definitely on a mission… why don’t you join us?!
