Our local Gliding club has a base at Nympsfield.
You can actually fly a glider from age 15, so next time your teenager mopes about saying that they're bored, suggest they go to 3000 Feet without an engine. They can either say yes, or stop whinging, which is a result either way.

Gliding - I had a go at this...
The video isn't me. But it shows that the Club operates at national levels.
My experience - I took a Trial Lesson.
Grass airstrip, very Biggles, and a tow launch. Now that has serious WHEEEE factor - 0 to 3000 feet, seemingly pretty much straight up, in under a minute.
Then some big wide turns, and a landing that puts your arse on the ground in just the way that big jets don't!.
Gliding is high on my list of "things to do more of" when I have time. I'd strongly suggest anyone to have a go.
