Legal and Licensing

Licensing

We have an Online Streaming License with www.mcps-prs-alliance.co.uk

This covers us for recording live gigs/concerts and steaming tracks via our site (and YouTube etc).

It protects the interests of composers and artists.

Why we should film you

  • Likal is about promoting live music in all genres, and getting people out to see it.
  • People these days tend to YouTube any band that they are thinking about going to see, if they don't know them.
  • So having material on YouTube is a good idea, esp when you are starting out. (A gig in front of hardly anyone can lead to thousands of YouTube page views and great comments, and help build your name for the future).
  • If you are already established then there is probably too much on YouTube, too much mobile phone footage, too wobbly, too out of focus, too awful sound. In which case we can help balance that with decently shot material with decent sound and use of a tripod for stability.
  • If you are a Classical artist, it's even more important to try and get the message out about this great work, and because we have a license, there are no rights issues.

Experience

During 2007/8 we covered:-

  • The International Rhythm and Blues Festival
  • Hydraid (all day gig at GL1)
  • Cheltenham Folk Festival
  • Exposed Club (wild jazz)
  • SLAK
  • Elbandito

Info for Artists

We can do whatever you want us to do.

We will give you a copy of the unedited material for your own use, if you request it, and you can use this as you wish.

Info for Promoters (including Classical)

If you invite us to film, we will assume that agreement has been given by the artist.

We normally expect to put up about 15mins from a set, but in some cases, (where the artist is keen for the coverage, and we are told so), we put up more.

There is no problem with rights issues because these are all covered by our license.

In our experience artists are usually happy to be filmed, but we will abide by any specific restrictions. (For example artists with major record contracts often state that we only put up one track).
